1mission began as a personal mission endeavor solely connected with Haiti in 2005. When Randy left Old Town Baptist Church to pursue further education, he wanted to create a way of continuing the ministry that was begun while he was at Old Town. So instead of the mission changing names along with churches where Randy might be serving, he created 1mission. While 1mission has been associated with several different churches over the past 8 years it is not a replacement for the church. In fact one of the foundation beliefs of 1mission is that the local church is central. The best ministry flows in, through, and out of God’s established means of reaching the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In 2007, Randy established an equipping partnership with L’eglise Evangelique Le Rocher D’Horeb (The Evangelical Church of Horeb Rock) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Pastor Clerzius and Randy had been introduced through another mission ministry in 2004. They discovered their vision and hearts to be of a singular purpose. Since then 1mission has pursued an equipping ministry through discipleship in the church. It has not been 1mission’s primary goal to provide financial assistance but rather help the church discover how they could carry out true mission minded ministry within the cultural context in which they exist with the resources that they have. The goal is to help the church in a way that is reproducible without any foreign involvement. Randy has been making 2-4 trips to Haiti each year to carry out this purpose. They are striving to lead the church to be a church planting church continually reproducing itself for the glory of God. It is the desire of 1mission to ultimately begin to partner other local churches with each church plant to continue equipping each local church to reproduce.
A vision to build a mission house in order to host missionaries and leadership conferences began to develop in 2008. In 2009, land was acquired in Croix-Des-Bouquet and the foundation was laid. Following the earthquake in 2010, several rooms were immediately built in order to provide housing for Pastor Clerzius and his family. The mission house project has been an ongoing process since then. Our immediate need on the mission house is to complete construction of the security wall and add the second story meeting room.
In the spring of 2015, 1mission partnered with Love That Builds. Love that Builds is a mission funding organization who shares the same vision that has driven 1mission. Together 1mission and Love That Builds seek to equip believers in Haiti to impact the Kingdom of God in their corner of the world.
In 2017, Randy felt led to leave the church he was serving and begin focusing on the further development of the ministry in Haiti. It was Randy's desire to devote more time to the development of the ministry in Haiti. During the transitional process, God led Randy and his family to serve as interim pastor at Craig Memorial Baptist Church. In God's providence, this church desired for Randy to remain as the full-time pastor while desiring to fully support the work in Haiti by allowing Randy the time necessary to spend in Haiti.
Update 10/22/2020: This past year has been a difficult one in numerous ways. The obvious challenge is the COVID-19 circumstances. But in addition to this, the political and economic situation has changed drastically creating multiple challenges and safety issues. As a result we have been unable to make any trips to Haiti but are looking forward to returning as soon as possible. In the meantime, we continue to support the training work that has begun through Pastor Clerzius and several other pastoral partners.
